This piece was a part of my class's Degas, Dance, and Rhythm unit. To the left is a picture while I was in the process of creating the finished project. I worked from top to bottom to avoid smudging of the media.
The picture to the left is of my finished art piece. This is my first time using chalk pastel, and I have to say I enjoyed the media except for the excess powders. Two of my favorite things about this piece is my showcase of blending and my artistic choice of leaving the excess powders surrounding the flames on the bottom to give it an extra wispy-ness.
Artist Statement:
This piece was based around a photo that was taken while our art class observed the CFPA dance class during our period. The media I used for this piece is chalk pastel with occasional white charcoal. I had a personal connection with this project because I used to dance for a period of time in my life, I had such a deep passion for it and I miss it dearly. The concept of this piece is an aerialist who has been chosen by the phoenix and has been granted special powers. Date Completed: 4/24/19
This piece I completed as a tribute in memory of Ellie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor and the author of Night . The media I chose to work with on this piece was colored pencil, I also chose to work with a dull grey to portray how Ellie's emotions and state of being were impacted by living through the Holocaust.
Artist Statement: I drew this portrait in memory of Ellie Wiesel the author of Night. The media I used for this piece was colored pencil. I used a dark French grey, not black, to emphasize how dull and meaningless he felt his life became while he was in the concentration camps and living through the Holocaust. Date completed: 2/13/19
In this piece I used graphite pencils (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, and 8B) to create the realistic portrait. As for the process of this piece, I spent many hours working in small sections moving counter-clockwise starting from the left. Date Completed: 4/5/19
This is a realistic portrait that I used graphite drawing pencils (4H, 2H, HB, 4B, 6B) to create. I did use a photo reference for shadows for 1/5 of this drawing due the the subject's face position. During the process, I used a combination of my hands and blending stumps to blend and soften certain gradients of graphite in the portrait. Date Completed: 8/14/18
These two pieces are practices I've done in my sketchbook. The picture to the left is done on black paper and the media I used was white colored pencil to minimize transfer and smudging of media onto the next page. This was a practice of drawing with highlights instead of shadows. It looks unfinished but with how the shadows are arranged, it is implied that there is only light coming from the right side of the drawing. Therefore, creating a harsh contrasting shadow. Date completed: 11/3/18 The picture to the right is done on brown neutral paper. This paper allows me to draw and color with highlights and shadows (such as white and black). Taking advantage of this neutral background, I used various colored pencils to create parts of the body that included the skin around them. Date completed: 12/15/18
